Kaare Krokene is a registered architect in Australia and a Norwegian-trained sivilarkitekt with extensive experience across Norway, Australia and New Zealand. He founded and led the establishment of Snøhetta’s Australasian presence, shaping major cultural and urban projects across the region.

Based in Adelaide, Kaare now operates an independent practice focused on early-stage project definition, design process and strategic advisory.
His work is grounded in a collaborative approach, bringing together clients, stakeholders and design teams to shape clear direction at the outset of complex project.

Strategic Design Advisory

Kaare works with clients and collaborators at the earliest stages of projects to define ambition, establish clear direction and set projects up for success.

This includes project visioning, briefing, stakeholder engagement and the establishment of robust design and delivery frameworks.
Alongside project-based work, Kaare also advises organisations and practices on design process, project positioning and strategic direction.

Through a structured and collaborative methodology, Kaare leads concept processes that translate strategic intent into spatial and architectural ideas.

This builds on extensive experience developing projects across cultural, civic and mixed-use sectors, where clarity of concept is critical to long-term success.

Experience

Kaare has led and contributed to a range of significant projects including:

  • The Glasshouse theatre (QPAC), Brisbane

  • Clarendon Tea House, Melbourne

  • Arts Centre Melbourne Renewal

These projects were delivered as part of Kaare’s leadership role at Snøhetta in Australasia.

His experience spans cultural, education, civic and mixed-use developments, with a consistent focus on projects of public significance and complexity.

About

Kaare is based in South Australia and works across Australasia.

He is a member of the Office for Design and Architecture South Australia Design Review Panel and serves as Honorary Consul of Norway in South Australia.

Alongside his advisory work, he remains committed to strengthening design culture in South Australia while contributing to projects nationally and internationally.
